about

Uncut Magazine: Sarah Jane

OBSCURA: WAH/FUZZ/SWELL

Underground label boss composes 'the first great electrosonic concept record of the new century'
Spread over 22 tracks, WAH/FUZZ/SWELL witnesses Orb collaborator and C-pij label boss Nina Walsh stitching together a complex blanket of tones, textures, loops, drones and pulses.
Certain tracks send a shiver up the spine as Walsh sings seemingly random lyrics over a wave of eerie effects while others find her hiding amid a torrent of rhythmic loops and pneumatic white noise.
Occasionally, Walsh injects moments of playfulness into her tracks, but mainly she echoes the dark, unsettling ambiance of Labradford.

DJ Mag: Found Sounds

OBSCURA: WAH/FUZZ/SWELL

Broaching testosterone fuelled laptop circles, ex-Sabrette Nina Walsh adds a welcome dash of femininity into the word of boys own electronica. A long haul project of some three years, WAH/FUZZ/SWELL trawls deep into a chasm of obtuse sound sources, pitching itself between industrial soundscaping and warm musical structure.
Compilled and programmed as a continuous flow, the album utilises all manner of FX although don't be fooled into thinking this is just an exercise into latent electronic weirdry. Intertwined within expansive sonics beautiful compositions exist, from the urgent incendiary windup of 'King Of Fancy' to the rippling melodica of 'Smokin' Dub' and the meandering acoustic guitar of 'A.C. Slide'. Advanced chill music for insomniacs. Superb.
